Cowfish are slow-moving boxfish with bony armor and “horns” above their eyes. These bony plates help protect them from predators, but also restrict their speed. They propel themselves using rapid movements of their dorsal, anal, and pectoral fins beating in unison. This gives the impression that they are slowly floating or hovering in the water.
