In addition to eight adult black-tailed prairie dogs, we currently have six "pups" that appeared above ground this week. Breeding normally occurs in late winter or early spring. After a one-month gestation period, two to 10 pups emerge from their dens at 5 weeks of age. They live in family groups called coteries, which consist of six to eight members that are related.
